We believe that social enterprises should be the future of the non-profit humanitarian sector. Whilst empowering local people through fundraising on the ground, social enterprises improve local economies and promote entrepreneurship. Through our three social enterprises; Dental Clinic, Mushrooms and Mwenya Tours, we are empowering local people with business skills and fairly paid jobs.

Social enterprises also put development into the hands of local people and not foreign grant makers. Our Ugandan team can decide exactly where the funds are needed most, so are therefore flexible enough to be able respond to rapidly changing local needs. This also increases autonomy within the beneficiary communities and reduces dependence on the Western world.

We teamed up with Enactus, a global NGO who work to empower people through entrepreneurship. A team of specifically recruited UK based students brought their skills, knowledge and ideas with them to Uganda to share with the Ugandan team. After much hard work and ongoing email communication culminating in three weeks' worth of workshops, Mwenya had set up two social enterprises in Uganda in just three weeks.
